Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to Close For LENGTHY Refurbishment
If there’s one thing you should know about Disney World, it’s that things are always changing! After all, Walt Disney did say that “Disneyland will never be completed,” meaning that Disney Parks should always be in a state of evolution.

Back in June, we let you know that Disney was preparing for a major Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment when they filed a permit for construction. Now we have some dates!
When Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Will Close
Disney just announced that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close on January 6, 2025, and it will not reopen until 2026. That’s a long refurbishment!

That means that the last day to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad before it closes will be January 5, 2025. Mark your calendar now!

What’s Next For Big Thunder?
In the notice on Big Thunder’s webpage, Disney teases that Big Thunder “will reopen with a little bit of new magic in 2026.” So what could that mean?
In case you missed it, at the D23 Expo this year Disney shared that a new Villains Land would be coming to Magic Kingdom.

While we do not yet have a timeline or exact location for Villains Land, we can’t help but wonder if Big Thunder’s lengthy refurbishment may have something to do with preparations for the new land!
