Adele Lim Will Officially Direct ‘Princess Diaries 3’
Audiences will soon get the chance to return to Genovia, as development on Princess Diaries 3 is officially under way.
The last time we got an update on the upcoming sequel was November 2022, when it was revealed that a third installment in the Princess Diaries franchise was in development.
Now, Adele Lim has signed on to direct the third installment in the franchise, which will be written by Flora Greeson.
“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim told Deadline. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
Lim’s Storied Career
Lim is no stranger to working with Disney. She previously wrote 2019’s Raya and the Last Dragon, which earned a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination.
Additionally, Lim is known for writing the wildly successful Crazy Rich Asians and for her work on One Tree Hill.
Last year, Lim made her directorial debut with Joy Ride. She will now be assuming directorial duties of the Princess Diaries franchise from the late Garry Marshall.
Will Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews Return?
The plot of Princess Diaries 3 is being kept under wraps. According to Variety, however, the film will continue the story of the original movies and not reboot the franchise.
Still, we have yet to get confirmation that Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrew will reprise their respective roles as Mia Thermopolis and Clarisse Renaldi. Last year, Hathaway told V Magazine:
“We’re in a good place. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”
Confirming that the upcoming film will follow the story in the first two Princess Diaries films would seemingly indicate that both actresses will return. For now, however, we will have to wait and see.
