24/7 Streams Have Arrived on Disney+
The long-promised Disney+ live streaming channels have finally arrived on Disney+, bringing curated 24/7 stations organized around common themes. Previously announced in August, the new stations are officially known as Streams.
Earlier this month, DIsney+ gave subscribers access to ABC News, a 24/7 channel. This was followed by Disney+ Playtime, a channel dedicated to Disney Junior programming such as Bluey, Sofia the First, The Lion Guard, and Minnie’s Bow-Toons.
According to Disney, the initial Streams have driven over 10 million hours of streaming from subscribers in the United States while also providing an overall engagement lift.
The Four New Disney+ Streams
After a successful soft launch, Disney+ has now introduced four more Streams. These include:
- Hallowstream — A seasonal channel that will debut with Disney’s spookiest content.
- Throwbacks — Pop-culture nostalgia.
- Real Life — A lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories.
- Hits and Heroes — A compilation of action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars.
Viewers Must Be Disney+ Subscribers to Access the Streams
While the Streams draw inspiration from the success of other streaming services such as Tubi, Pluto, and The Roku Channel, the Disney-owned Streams are not free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST). Instead, viewers must be Disney+ subscribers to access the Streams.
“Streams is another way Disney+ is providing subscribers with more choice, new options for endless entertainment and an opportunity for subscribers to discover something new, or relive old favorites, based on seasonality and interest,” the company explained.
“It’s just one of many ways Disney+ is looking to better serve consumers with the content they want most.”
While FAST streaming services have proven to be wildly popular, it remains to be seen how well Disney Streams do behind a paywall. If they are successful, however, Disney will have another route to raise engagement on its platforms.
