Make Rainy Day Magic at Walt Disney World
While Walt Disney World is known for its (mostly) bright sunny days and amazing weather, every once in a while, you run into a week like we are experiencing right now.
When a hurricane approaches and the parks are still operating, guests will be dealing with storms, rain, and clouds.
The good news? You don’t have to let a rainy day dampen your fun! Walt Disney World offers plenty of magical experiences, even on days like this.
Here is how to make the most of a rainy day at the Most Magical Place on Earth.
1. Explore the Indoor Attractions
When the rain starts pouring, the fun is just starting! The best way to stay dry is to visit one of the many incredible indoor attractions at the parks.
These thrilling rides offer a great (dry) way to be entertained while waiting out the weather.
And each theme park has something fun and family-friendly indoors to offer.
MickeyBlogTip: Plan Your Rainy Day Route
When it is a cloudy day or the weather is rainy, I start my day by heading to attractions that are entirely indoors, like Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom.
At EPCOT, guests can visit Spaceship Earth or The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers classic indoor thrills like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Animal Kingdom also offers great rides like Na’vi River Journey.
2. Take in the Shows
Walt Disney World is known for its amazing live entertainment featuring singers, dancers, and more! Many of these shows are housed indoors, making them the perfect rainy-day retreat.
My favorites include a rainy-day retreat to Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom or Festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom.
Another perk? They offer a chance to rest your feet while being immersed in the magic of Disney’s storytelling.
MickeyBlog Tip: Prioritize Showtimes
On a rainy day, it’s a good idea to look up showtimes ahead of time in the My Disney Experience app and incorporate into your day to ensure you have fun! Showtimes can change, so this is th ebest way to have the most current info.
Check out Mickey’s PhilharMagic or Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!
3. Shop ’til You Drop
Do you need an excuse to spend money and buy yourself a special souvenir? Rain is the perfect opportunity to slow down and explore the selection of shops and merchandise throughout Walt Disney World.
Not only will you stay dry, but you will walk away with some fun gifts that you have been eyeing.
MickeyBlog Tip: Head to the Resorts or Disney Springs
If I’m looking at an all-day rainy day, I head over to Disney Springs or visit the hotels. Disney Springs is an entertainment complex that offers shopping, dining, bowling, movies and so much more.
The resorts are great for checking out exclusive merchandise and shops.
Both of these locations offer a break from the parks and provide different shops and entertainment options. Afterwards, I can grab a delcious treat or relax with a refreshing drink.
4. Indulge In a Rainy Day Meal
Rainy days provide the perfect opportunity to sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal! There are so many outstanding restaurants and dining location!s.
Experience everything from your favorite quick-serve location to a fun character breakfast.
This gives you time to recharge and wait for the skies to clear while enjoying some amazing eats.
MickeyBlog Tip: Book a Table Someplace New
On rainy days, plans and itineraries change quickly. Now is the perfect time to see if there are any openings in a location that is typically hard to get into.
5. Meet and Greet With Disney Characters
Is there anything better than meeting your favorite Disney characters? This exciting opportunity happens rain or shine. On a stormy day, simply head to the meet-and-greet locations that are indoors.
My current favorite? I love meeting Mickey, Minnie, and friends in EPCOT’s CommuniCore Hall! Mickey & Friends is the newst hot spot to meet your Disney faves.
MickeyBlog Tip: Find Indoor Character Meet-and-Greets early
Plan accordingly! Check the schedule ahead of time and try to visit these locations earlier than later, as the lines and crowds quickly grow!
6. Make the Most of a Rainy Day Parade
The rain may dampen your spirit, but it also provides you with something that guests do not see every day. When it rains, Disney knows it still has to provide entertainment for the guests. You will see specialty entertainment on rainy days!
It can be checking out the Rainy Day Cavalcade in Magic Kingdom, or getting your picture taken with Winnie the Pooh holding an umbrella. There are unique opportunities that pop up only on stormy days.
MickeyBlog Tip: Grab the Ponchos
Grab the ponchos and raingear, if the weather looks gloomy, keep the rainy day essentials handy so you can enjoy the rainy-day parades and fun.
7. Embrace the Rain
Sometimes, the best way to deal with rain is to simply embrace it! Put on a poncho, grab an umbrella, and make the most of the day. You are at Disney World after all.
MickeyBlog Tip: Rainy Day Photo Shoot
Take one-of-a kind photos! If it’s raining, it’s the perfect time to dance in the puddles on Main Street and have fun with the whole family, and you will have a magical vacation memory!
Rainy days at Walt Disney World can still be packed with fun and magic! With a little planning and patience, you and your family can embrace the weather and have a fantastic vacation.
