Top Ten Items That Are ALWAYS in My Disney Suitcase
Packing for a vacation, no matter the destination can be stressful. As someone who agonizes over being prepared, I dread packing for less familiar destinations.
But when it comes to Walt Disney World, I’m an expert. Not only have I been there over a dozen times, but I’ve also traveled there during all seasons.
I’ve learned from my mistakes. I’ve learned which products are overrated hacks and which truly make or break my park day.
Today, allow me to share my must-have packing items for your suitcase. I guarantee that even following one of these recommendations will be a game-changer!
#1: MagicBand Protector
When FitBits were all the rage and MagicBands were brand new, I came to appreciate this handy device. All guests using them should have a MagicBand protector.
It’s simple. It’s just a small elastic band that slides onto your MagicBand. When pulled over the clasp area, it prevents it from slipping off your wrist.
(And take it from me, MagicBands slip off easily.)
Losing one wouldn’t only be annoying, it’d be inconvenient. MagicBands can be replaced, and every reservation is still linked to your My Disney Experience account, but you’d still have the hassle of deactivating the missing one.
Plus, with so many guests linking credit card info to them, you wouldn’t want just anyone to pick it up…
You can buy a packet of MagicBand protectors on Amazon for as low as $7.00. Order your set now!
#2: Metal, Reusable Straws
I love Disney’s dedication to sustainable environmental practices. But I don’t love my paper straw melting in my Dole Whip float.
To make sipping around the EPCOT World Showcase more pleasant, I invested in reusable, stainless steel straws. I carry one per person in my park bag.
Recently, I’ve been using a set from Amazon ($6.99). This set contains a travel pouch, straw cleaners, and silicone tips to identify which straw belongs to whom.
I take these out for every non-bottled drink and wash them every night in my hotel. Be warned though, they’re easy to leave behind!
Order your reusable straws and say goodbye to floppy paper alternatives.
#3: Wet Brush
Bringing a hairbrush is a no-brainer, but this is a must-have one. I’ve been relying on my detangling Wet Brush for years, especially on vacation.
This cheap and effective hairbrush is meant to detangle all hair types, and never fails me post-shower or Florida rainstorm.
As someone with fine hair that knots easily, swampy Florida water is not kind to my locks. And those random Florida thunderstorms have left it a complete mess.
Now, I always carry a patented Wet Brush in my bag. Your hair will thank you if you do the same.
#4: Umbrellas
Florida’s weather is like the sea. Unpredictable. I’ve traveled to Orlando during all four seasons, and I never go without rain gear. You always have to be prepared for a rainy park day.
Ponchos are popular, but personally, they’re not for me. I always get soaked through wearing them and then, I’m stuck inside a wet plastic bag for the day.
I’m an umbrella girl. I always have one compact travel umbrella on me. (And I usually have a backup at the hotel.)
Granted, I still use ponchos for shows and nightly fireworks, but when it comes to walking around the park or standing in a queue, I huddle under an umbrella.
Trust me. When you’re still dry(ish) despite a downpour, you’ll be glad you carried one.
#5: Multiple Walking Shoes
Packing a pair of comfortable walking shoes is obvious, but do you bring backups? You should.
Even the greatest pair of tennis shoes will start to wear on your feet/arches after a couple of days of walking. I always bring at least two pairs and rotate between them.
It’s also great to have a backup if your shoes get drenched in a random downpour.
Just make sure all shoes are equally broken in, and you’re set to have a much more comfortable vacation.
#6: Body Glide (and Stretchy Shorts)
Disney is hot. Disney requires a lot of walking. And walking around in a hot, sweaty environment can cause chafing.
Take it from someone who had to cut out early one day. I forgot to apply this product and it’s a MUST HAVE. It’s BodyGlide Anti Chafe Balm.
Think of it like deodorant for the crevices of your body. Pack this and apply it to areas like thighs, arms, and feet throughout the day.
Additionally, all my sundress-wearing friends should pack a pair of soft shorts to wear underneath. Not only will this make it easier to get in and out of ride vehicles, but it’s also another form of chafing protection.
But most importantly, my husband and I rely on BodyGlide to keep us comfortable. Pack several sticks and do not learn the hard way.
#7: Portable White Noise Machine or White Noise Smartphone App
Disney World is relaxing, but not calm. And it’s rarely quiet.
Even the ritziest Disney hotel is full of families coming in and out at all hours. Hearing babies cry or children throwing a tantrum is typical.
To get quality sleep, I always bring a portable white noise machine. This drowns out all hotel noise and makes it possible to sleep in on a rest day.
You can find a variety of sound machines on Amazon, but a smartphone app can work just as well. Either way, have some kind of noise-cancelling method at your disposal.
#8: External Battery
In the age of smartphones, it’s nearly impossible to navigate society without one. It’s impossible in Disney World.
Many reservations can be booked in advance, but other aspects like joining Virtual Ride Queues, placing mobile food orders, or checking on wait times, require the MDE app.
This means we use our phones constantly. To save ourselves from hunting for outlets or charging stations, both my spouse and I carry an external charging battery.
This keeps our phones alive and well for all technology-related Disney World things.
My one tip? Always take it out of your bag to walk through the park entrance metal detectors. It will cause you to get stopped for additional security screening.
#9: CamelBak Hydration Backpack
Did I mention that Orlando, Florida is hot? (Luckily, there are many indoor, air-conditioned attractions to enjoy!)
Anyways, Florida is hot, humid, and requires almost constant hydration. Even native Floridians will tell you to always carry water.
Well, it can be annoying to carry around a water bottle in Disney. Many food stands do give free courtesy cups of water, but they are small.
Instead, my husband carries around a CamelBak Hydration Backpack. Essentially, it’s a backpack full of water with an attached straw.
Every morning, he fills it up with water/ice at the hotel, and we easily finish it throughout the day. (It’s a literal lifesaver in the summer.)
Now, it’s not as cheap as your typical gym bag and the non-water compartments don’t hold much, but we’d never be caught in Disney without it.
Get yours on Amazon ASAP.

#10: Appropriate Outerwear
Florida is the sunshine state, but it technically sees all four seasons. I’ve worn everything there from lightweight dresses to jeans and heavy sweaters.
Before packing, check the weather forecast. Never assume the weather will be comfortable because it’s “Florida”. Florida experiences the winter chill too!
Depending on the time of year, a poncho, heavy winter coat, or no coat at all may be appropriate. Either way, no one wants to overpay for an emergency sweatshirt or a cab ride to the local mall.
Pack for the expected weather and I promise you’ll be much happier. Comfort always beats out fashion when it comes to travel. Don’t be caught unawares.
I hope my packing list has given you inspiration! I wish you all a Disney World vacation that is magical and well-equipped.
