ESPN Has Laid Off Senior NBA Writer Zach Lowe
Just one week before the 2024-2025 NBA preseason kicks off, ESPN has laid off senior NBA writer Zach Lowe.
Long considered one of the most thoughtful and insightful voices in the NBA community, Lowe originally joined the Worldwide Leader in Sports in 2012 as part of Bill Simmons’ long-form website Grantland.
In addition to his work on ESPN.com, Lowe frequently appeared on the network’s NBA coverage and hosted the popular Lowe Post podcast.

According to The Athletic, ESPN’s decision to let Lowe go was influenced by the analyst’s seven-figure salary.
ESPN Continues to Lay Off Talent
With ESPN’s fiscal year set to end on September 30, the Worldwide Leader in Sports has seen a series of personnel changes. Last month, the network fired NFL analyst Robert Griffin III and Sunday NFL Countdown host Samantha Ponder. Both personalities were reportedly let go due to their high salaries.

Just months after signing a massive new television rights deal with the NBA, ESPN now has a radically different-looking team of basketball analysts. Lowe’s departure follows Adrian Wojnarowski’s retirement earlier this week and J.J. Reddick’s exit to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

As for Lowe, it remains to be seen what is next for the NBA analyst. Perhaps a reunion with Simmons at The Ringer will be in order?
Neither ESPN nor Lowe has commented on the NBA analyst’s departure.
