Remembering Jim Henson
For many of us, it’s difficult to remember a time before Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Elmo, or Big Bird. These loveable and timeless characters were a staple in our childhoods, filling our homes with fun-filled music, zany humor, and a WHOLE lot of heart.
A brilliant puppeteer, animator, filmmaker, and actor, Henson is best known as the creator of The Muppets and as the designer of Sesame Street‘s endearing cast of furry monsters.
He was also the brains behind Fraggle Rock (1983-1987), Dinosaurs (1991-1994) The Dark Crystal (1982), and the cult classic fantasy film Labyrinth (1986), which stars Jennifer Connelly and the late, great David Bowie.
Thanks to the magnificent mind of Jim Henson, we have enjoyed some of the most innovative and memorable films, characters, and stories of all time.
Born in Mississippi in 1936, Henson’s illustrious career began with a televised puppeteering gig in 1954 when he was just 18 years old.
The job eventually led to Henson’s first show, Sam and Friends, which featured his various creations, including the character that would one day evolve into Kermit the Frog.
Jim Henson passed away on May 16th, 1990 at the age of 53. However, his legend lives on through his incredible and unforgettable creations.
Happy Birthday, Jim Henson!
