The latest update from the National Hurricane Center states that potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is expected to form into a hurricane this week. The center has issued Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches for parts of Florida.
PTC-9
PTC-9 could make landfall as a major hurricane this week. It is expected to produce 3 to 10 inches of rain and bring intense winds and the risk of flooding.
PTC-9 is currently located 150 miles west of Grand Cayman, with winds of 35 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1001MB. This system can become a named storm as early as today and officially a hurricane by tomorrow.
The NHC states there is a near 100% chance of formation in the next 48 hours.
The system is moving across the eastern Gulf of Mexico and strengthening. It is expected to move northwest today, but it will then turn north to northeastern on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tropical advisories are in effect for many central Florida counties. Orange County and Walt Disney World are currently under a tropical storm watch.
Central Florida Impact
At this time, models don’t show the center of PTC-9 passing through Central Florida, though it’s likely the area will feel the impacts.
