Invest 97L Storm Could Develop into Hurricane Impacting Florida This Week
Could Florida be impacted by an approaching storm in the next few days? According to the National Hurricane Center, Invest97L could develop into a major hurricane and approach Florida later this week.
As of this morning, the NHC states the system has an 80% chance of development in the next two days with those chances rising to 90% over the next week.
Once this occurs, the storm is officially named Helene.
Uncertain Path
Local meteorologists are uncertain of the exact track of the storm and are following various models.
The majority of the models show the system strengthening into a hurricane once it moves through that Yucatán channel.

Depending on its path, the storm could make landfall in the Florida Panhandle or Big Bend area by the end of the week.

If this storm shifts 50 miles in either direction, it will make a big difference where and how it impacts the area.
Meteorologists will have a clearer idea of the path over the next 24 to 36 hours.
In addition, a tropical disturbance is brewing between Western Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands, with a 20% chance of developing in the next two days and a 70% chance of developing in the next week.
