Not visiting the parks on this holiday? No worries- let’s set sail and have fun with some pirate-y knowledge!
Did You Know…
The iconic theme song, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A Pirate’s Life for Me,” was composed by George Bruns with lyrics by Xavier Atencio Atencio. It quickly became one of Disney’s most recognizable attraction tunes.
Pirates of the Caribbean was the last attraction that Walt Disney personally supervised before he died in 1966. Though he never saw its opening in Disneyland, his legacy lives on in every version of the ride.
Fans of the movie? In 2006, the attraction was updated to include Captain Jack Sparrow from the popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Johnny Depp also provided his animatronic voice, adding an extra touch of authenticity.
The original attraction was supposed to be a walk-thru wax museum. It became the sea-faring ride fans love today after an innovative new ride system was developed for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair.
Pirates, chickens, animals, villagers, and more! Did you know that the Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland features over 120 animatronics?
Each of the attractions also features Hidden Mickeys! Keep your eyes open for more than buried treasure on your next pirate adventure!
One of the ride’s most distinctive features is the smell of the salty air as you enter. The unique scent is designed to immerse ye immediately in the pirate world.
The day is almost over, but you still have time to gather yer crew and practice yer best pirate lingo. Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
