The Ultimate Woj Bomb: Adrian Wojnarowski Is Leaving ESPN and Retiring From Sports Reporting
Adrian Wojnarowski has been the definitive NBA insider for most of the last two decades.
After working at The Harford Courant and The Record, Wojnarowski moved to Yahoo! Sports, where he became perhaps the most connected NBA reporter in the country.
Delighting NBA fans with his scoops (often referred to as Woj Bombs), Wojnarowski amassed a gigantic following on social media and was the definitive NBA source for many.
In 2017, Wojnarowski jumped from Yahoo to ESPN, where he continued to break the news, drop Woj Bombs, and cover the NBA for the past seven seasons.
Wojnarowski Is Leaving ESPN
Seemingly at the height of his profession, Wojnarowski stunned the sports world today when he announced that he was leaving ESPN and stepping away from the news industry.
“I’ve decided to retire from ESPN and the news industry,” he explained in a lengthy farewell post. “I understand the commitment required in my role, and it’s an investment that I’m no longer driven to make. Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are more personally meaningful.”
After explaining his decision to step away, Wojnarowski thanked his fans, readers, and peers.
“I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, subjects and stories, readers and viewers.” he continued.
“No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust, and generosity of others.”
Finally, Woj made sure to thank ESPN.
“The past seven years at ESPN have been a particular privilege. I’m appreciative of the company’s leadership- especially Jimmy Pitaro and Cristina Daglas- for the understanding and acceptance of my decision to make a life change.”
“After all these years reporting on everyone’s teams,” Wojnarowski ended. “I’m heading back to my own.”
What’s Next For Woj
While Wojnarowski’s statement did not explain his next move, it quickly emerged that he had accepted a position as general manager of the men’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure University, which is also his alma mater.
