Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘An Almost Christmas Story’ Will Debut on Disney+ This Fall
Alfonso Cuarón’s collection of holiday shorts will end this fall when An Almost Christmas Story premieres on Disney+.
Directed by David Lowery, the upcoming short will tell the story of a curious young owl named Moon, who finds himself stuck in a Christmas tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza.
“In his attempts to escape the bustling city, Moon befriends a lost young girl named Luna. Together, they embark on a heartwarming adventure, discovering the magic of the holiday season. And also forming an unlikely bond as they journey back home to their parents,” the short’s synopsis reads.
The Final Installment in Cuaron’s Holiday Collection
An Almost Christmas Story was inspired by the real-world story of Rocky, a small owl found and rescued from the Rockefeller Center Chrismas tree in 2020.
Unlike the first two installments in Cuarón’s holiday shorts collection (2022’s Le Pupille and 2022’s The Shephard), the latest short will be animated.
A star-studded cast that includes Cary Christopher, Estella Madrigal, Jim Gaffigan, Mamoudou Athie, Alex Ross Perry, Phil Rosenthal, and Natasha Lyonne will bring life to An Almost Christmas Story.
John C. Reilly will also lend his voice to the animated short as The Folk Singer. The actor will perform four songs, two of which are original.
The upcoming short is produced by Disney Branded Television and Curan’s Esperanto Filmoj, in association with Titmouse and Maere Studios, and with animation by 88 pictures.
At this time, there is no release date for An Almost Christmas Story. However, we will be sure to keep you updated.
