Legendary Disney Voice Actor Peter Renaday Has Passed Away
Legendary voice actor Peter Renaday has passed away at the age of 89.
The Hollywood veteran, who gave voice to some of the popular culture’s most famous characters, including Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was found dead in his home as part of a welfare check.
Renaday’s niece, Mindy Zachary, broke the news on Facebook, noting that the cause of death remains unclear.
According to her post, however, the air conditioning was not working in his home. As the recent heatwave hit Los Angeles, temperatures in Renaday’s home reached the 90s.
A Disney Legend
It is impossible to tell the story of the Disney Parks without Peter Renaday.
For over 60 years, Pete Renaday has become synonymous with the Disney experience. After working on numerous projects for the Disney Studio, including Lt. Robinson Crusoe, U.S.N., The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, The Million Dollar Duck, and the Cat From Outer Space, Renaday rose to prominence in Disney’s parks.
Over the next two decades, Reneday would provide the voice of Captain Nemo in 20,00 Leagues Under the Sea, Henry and Max in the Country Bear Jamboree, and Abraham Lincoln in The Hall of Presidents.
At Disneyland, Reneday could be heard as the narrator in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, the Astro Orbitor announcer, and the captain of the Sailing Ship Columbia. He also provided voices in Flight to the Moon and Mission to Mars at both parks.
For generations of Disney fans, Renaday was present for some of their most cherished memories, whether they knew it or not.
Other Disney Work
Outside of the parks, Renaday also worked on The Aristocats, The Rescuers, The Black Cauldron, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Quack Pack, and The Princess and the Frog. He also provided the voice of the Ghost Host in the LP, The Story and Song From the Haunted Mansion.
Thank you for everything, Pete.
