Large Vehicle Smashes Digital Road Sign on World Drive
A large vehicle crashed into a digital sign on World Drive this morning, causing traffic backups. Hopefully, no one was injured.
The accident occurred when a large vehicle was traveling southbound on World Drive and seemingly believed they would clear the sign.
Unfortunately, that was not the case, and the traffic sign was damaged.
The Scene on World Drive
The digital traffic sign updates vehicles on traffic patterns, delays, and other pertinent information.
As you can see, the sign was pretty severely damaged.
Here is a look from another angle.
Notably, the sign still appears to be working.
The digital road sign is maintained by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, which is tasked with overseeing all of Walt Disney World’s roadways.
Impact on Traffic Was Minimal
Both construction and emergency vehicles were on the scene. However, the impact on other travelers was minimal.
All that resulted from the broken sign was one lane of closure. Ironically, travelers are being warned about the lane closure on the damaged sign.
However, we did spot a District Fire Department vehicle leaving the scene on the EPCOT/Disney Springs exit.
If we hear any updates on the accident, we will pass them along.
