Mexico is Leaving Us Wanting More at EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival
Today is the first day of the 2024 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and we’re ready to take it all in! There’s a bunch of new food, merchandise, and more.
Come along with us as we go check out what’s cooking at the Mexico booth!
Mexico
The Mexico booth is located right before you get to the Mexico Pavilion coming from the front of the World Showcase.
This spot can be pretty popular, so be prepared to possibly wait in line!
This year, there’s almost a completely new menu! We’ve got 3 new food items and 2 new cocktails. The only thing returning is the Mexican Craft Beer.
We started with the new Tostada de Camarones for $7.75. This is tempura battered shrimp atop a fried corn tortilla with guacamole, cabbage, chipotle aïoli, diced mango, and chile-lime powder.
The batter on the shrimp tastes like it might be frozen or flash fried, so it wasn’t the freshest experience, but it was still good!
The tostada is very crunchy and the crema is refreshing. However, we have had better items from this booth in the past — this isn’t that special!
Next, we got the new Flauta de Barbacoa for $8. This is fried tortillas filled with barbacoa beef topped with salsa verde, crema Mexicana, and queso fresco.
This is delicious! The bites where you get everything at once are the best. The queso fresco and crema are nice and refreshing additions that go well with everything.
The meat is tender with a nice amount of salt and the corn tortilla tastes very fresh! However, the portion is kind of small for the price.
Finally, we have the new dessert, the Pan de Elote. This is a traditional Mexican cornbread topped with chocolate sauce and queso fresco for $6.
This tastes very much just like cornbread with Hershey’s chocolate syrup and queso fresco. It was a little bit mushy and wasn’t our favorite.
It tastes kind of artificial — we wouldn’t get this one again.
Now, for the drinks! First up is the new Mango Sunrise Margarita. This is Dos Hombres Mezcal, Centinela Tequila, mango purée, and black currant liquor with a chile-lime salt rim for $13.25.
This drink has a bit of spice to it and we don’t really taste a lot of the mango. The mezcal seems to be overpowering the more subtle flavors here!
We do like the chile-lime salt rim combined with the flavors in the drink, though.
We also got the new Poblano Margarita for $13. This is Lalo Tequila Blanco, Abasolo Corn Whisky, lime juice, and Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Poblano Liqueur with a salt rim.
This pretty much just tastes like a regular margarita — we didn’t taste much of the poblano or whisky flavors.
It just kind of tastes like a classic margarita, which isn’t a bad thing, just nothing super unique!
Also remember that you can get the returning Mexican Craft Beer which is $6 for 6 oz. and $11 for 12 oz.
Overall, we were a bit disappointed by the Mexico booth this year! We did have high expectations, and nothing was explicitly bad, we just don’t think the prices match what you’re getting here.
Stay tuned for more from EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival!
