Here’s What’s Coming to Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line recently announced another major expansion.
From now through the end of 2025, three new cruise ships will set sail on their maiden voyages.
That’s a dramatic escalation in ship volume for a fleet that currently consists of five vessels.
Remarkably, Disney is just getting started with its grand ambitions to elevate its cruise business.
Over the next seven years, Disney will add enough new luxury ships to bring the grand total to 13!
As part of this expansion, Disney cruises will add unprecedented experiences.
The goal is to turn a Disney cruise into a combination of a theme park visit, an exotic vacation getaway, and a night on Broadway.
How will Disney accomplish such lofty goals? The answer is upscale amenities, the kind we’ve never seen on cruise ships before now.
Here’s what’s coming to Disney Cruise Line.
About Recent Disney Cruise Amenities
By now, you should know to associate Disney Cruise Line (DCL) with luxury and family-friendly entertainment.
The program has held itself to a high standard since its opening in the 1990s.
However, the rise of the new Triton-class ships (and even larger ones) has empowered Disney to elevate the experiences.
Starting with the Disney Wish, DCL introduced stunning amenities that extend the Disney theme park brand to the high seas.
Guests can celebrate the engagement of Anna and Kristoff by eating a meal at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure.
Similarly, Marvel fans can watch a mini-MCU movie. It’s called Avengers Quantum Encounter, and it’s shockingly entertaining.
The Disney Wish even added the world’s first onboard theme park attraction, the AquaMouse, a water ride mixed with a Mickey Mouse cartoon.
All Aboard the Disney Treasure!
When the Disney Treasure sets sail later in 2024, it’ll up the ante with another batch of unprecedented activities.
I’m most excited about the new Broadway-esque musical, The Tale of Moana, a stage presentation of the beloved film.
However, that’s only the tip of the entertainment iceberg on the cruise ship…although maybe I shouldn’t mention icebergs with cruise ships.
Anyway, on the Disney Treasure, you’ll also enjoy a unique dining experience: Plaza de Coco.
During your meal, you’ll visit Saint Cecilia, a place familiar to fans of the Pixar movie.
While there, you’ll dine on succulent Mexican cuisine, as you watch a concert performed by…Miguel!
Yes, real life will imitate art thanks to the magic of Disney Cruise Line! Disney even offered a sneak preview of the show.
Another Worlds of Marvel restaurant is available on the Disney Treasure, but this one will switch between two different stories.
We’ll have the original Avengers: Quantum Encounter, plus a new show starring Spider-Man!
Disney fans will discover many unique touches like this on the Disney Treasure, but some would say I haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet!
How much do you love The Aristocats? Well, you can celebrate your fandom with this meticulously themed lounge.
You may not have heard as much about it since a different lounge stole its thunder.
I’m, of course, referencing the Haunted Mansion Parlor coming to the Disney Treasure.
This place is just what it sounds like: a lounge based on Haunted Mansion!
The new plan for DCL involves transitioning many of your favorite theme park experiences to cruise ships!
Even some defunct attractions will have a presence on DCL. Have you seen the Periscope Pub?
This is the future of DCL, and we’re so excited we devoted an entire podcast to it.
The Disney Adventure
I’ll talk the least about the Disney Adventure because the reality is that few of you are likely to sail on this ship.
While that’s unfortunate, it’s also a feature, not a bug. DCL will make Singapore the home country for the Disney Adventure.
Personally, I’ve never been to Singapore, although Dad always said great things about his naval stops there.
Still, this cruise ship hints at what’s coming to DCL in the future.
The Disney Adventure is, for all intents and purposes, a Disney theme park at sea.
If you’re unclear on the point, simply consider the ship’s design. DCL has divided the Adventure into seven themed areas.
That should sound familiar to you because it’s basically how Walt Disney structured Disneyland. Later, Imagineers followed suit at Magic Kingdom.
On the Adventure, you’ll find Disney Imagination Garden, Disney Discovery Reef, San Fransokyo Street, Marvel Landing, Toy Story Place, Town Square, and Wayfinder Bay.
Close your eyes and you can easily envision what you’ll find at those various themed areas.
Each of them ties back to an existing Disney brand or, in some instances, like Disney Discovery Reef, several of them.
You’re experiencing an entire series of Disney stories during what’s ostensibly a cruise vacation. How great is that?
The Disney Destiny
When the Disney Destiny embarks on its maiden voyage, it’ll face a tough test.
Fans will evaluate the Disney Destiny against the other two ships in the Triton class, the Wish and the Treasure.
As if that weren’t challenging enough, Minnie Mouse wears this on the Disney Treasure.
So, yeah, the expectations will be high for the next thing that follows those two remarkable vessels.
Since few American tourists will sail on the Disney Adventure in 2025, the direct comparison becomes the Disney Destiny.
Fortunately, DCL officials have had plenty of time to plan every last detail of this ship, which should become the crown jewel of the fleet.
You’ll know this the instant you enter the Grand Hall.
Imagineers have drawn inspiration from Black Panther and Wakanda for this majestic space.
So, this Grand Hall reflects the modern era of Disney, while the Wish and Treasure highlight its storied past.
Disney has promised this area will act as a “living theater” consisting of random appearances by Marvel superheroes.
Doctor Strange fans will be in for a treat, as one of the lounges, Sanctum, brings to life the character’s mansion from the MCU.
Fittingly, the most decadent suite on the ship will honor Tony Stark, the billionaire playboy who ultimately stops Thanos.
This suite is the kind of place where Stark would expect to say if he were taking a Disney cruise. So, you’ll adore it!
Meanwhile, the younger crew will adore Marvel Super Hero Academy, where Cast Members teach the next generation how to save the world.
You never know when your kid might need that information.
Final Thoughts
Disney cruises have won countless awards as the best family-friendly options in the industry.
Remarkably, those votes occurred long before Disney introduced the Wish, its flagship vessel right now.
By the end of 2025, three (!) different cruise ships will rightfully earn a spot in the argument for the best DCL offering.
Then, Disney will add several other cruise ships between now and the end of 2031.
So, we’re just getting started here! If you’ve never taken a Disney cruise, you’ll want to try one soon.
Between the Wish, the Treasure, and the Destiny, you’re sure to find the amenities that satisfy your personal Disney tastes.
What’s coming to Disney Cruise Line is a fundamental change in philosophy.
Disney brands, even the ones from the theme parks, will become a part of the daily routine on DCL cruises.
We’re still just on the ground floor of Disney cruise expansion.
You should get into it now before others realize how incredible DCL is.
