James Cameron Reveals If He Would Direct Another ‘Alien’ Film
James Cameron has become so synonymous with his Avatar films over the last decade and a half that it is easy to forget that the director was once a major player in another popular sci-fi franchise.
Of course, I am talking about the Alien franchise, which is currently experiencing something of a renaissance with the release of Alien: Romulus.

Cameron was tasked with building on Ridley Scot’s original Alien film with his 1986 sequel, Aliens. The film was lauded by fans and critics alike and is widely considered one of the best sequels ever.
Would Cameron Direct Another ‘Alien’ FIlm?
Directed by Fede Alvarez, Romulus has sparked new life into the Alien franchise and proven to Disney that it is a property worth investing in.

With more Alien films likely on the horizon, fans have wondered if Cameron would consider returning to the franchise.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Cameron was asked if he would be open to helming another Alien film. While the director didn’t completely reject the idea, he also admitted that he likely would not have time.

“It’s kind of trampled ground at this point,” the Avatar director said. “I wouldn’t rule anything out but I’ve got 23 other projects in the queue before that hypothetical one so I’m going to guess, with me turning 70, that ain’t gonna happen. You’ve got to pick your battles at some point. You know what I mean?” he added.
With Avatar: Fire and Ash on the horizon and more sequels in the shoot, it makes sense that Cameron’s schedule is full.
Cameron Met With Alvarez
While it is unlikely that Cameron will direct another Alien film, he did reveal that he talked to Fede Alvarez early on in the development of Alien: Romulus.

“I wasn’t really helping out,” Cameron explained. “I know Fede [Álvarez], the director, and very early on he and his writing partner came to me and said, ‘Got any ideas?’ – no, they had plenty of ideas but they just wanted to kind of, I don’t know, pilgrimage to Mecca or something like that. But that was years ago, then they went off and wrote their thing and I had nothing to do with it.”

Even without Cameron, based on the success of Alien: Romulus, it looks like the future of the franchise is bright.
