Temuera Morrison Will NOT Return as Boba Fett For ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’
After three widely successful seasons on Disney+, the story of Din Djarin and Grogu will continue on the big screen when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
For their big return to the box office, Lucasfilm is counting on the popularity of its two biggest streaming stars to bring fans to theaters.
While it looks like Din and Grogu will soon be gearing up for the biggest adventure of their lives, the plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu has largely been kept under wraps.
What we do know about the upcoming Star Wars film, however, is that it will be set in the era of the New Republic. With Disney counting on a blockbuster, many fans have speculated that we will see other New Republic heroes, like Ahsoka, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, or Bo Katan, join the titular heroes on their galactic adventure.
What About Boba Fett?
Another name that has been bandied about is Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett. The legendary bounty hunter played a significant role in The Mandalorian Season 2 before landing his own spin-off, The Book of Boba Fett.
Unfortunately, the latter series received a tepid response from fans and critics alike. Since then, Boba Fett has been notably absent.
Will Morrison Return For ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?
During a recent appearance at Fan Expo in Chicago, Morrison was asked if Boba Fett would return in The Mandalorian and Grogu. His response was disheartening, to say the least. After explaining that he will not be appearing in the film, Morrison added:
“I’m still waiting for a phone call, to be quite honest. I think we’re just put on the shelf for a little bit. Maybe we can come off the shelf later.”
After years of remaining optimistic that The Book of Boba Fett would still get a second season, Morrison seems to have given up hope, at least for the foreseeable future.
Is Boba Fett’s Story Over?
Boba Fett’s absence from both The Mandalorian Season 3 and The Mandalorian and Grogu now raises concerns that we will never see Morrison suit up again.
While The Book of Boba Fett was perhaps a disappointment, Morrison is not to blame. The actor even told Forbes that he disagreed with how his character has been portrayed.
“Sometimes, I’d say [to Favreau], ‘I think this is too much, I think this is too much,'” Morrison said. “I said: ‘Noah, this scene tomorrow. I’m talking too much! This Boba Fett doesn’t talk this much.’”
With Dave Filoni still set to bring the heroes of the New Republic together for his Grand Admiral Thrawn movie, there is still a chance that we will see Morrison as Boba Fett again. For now, however, things look bleak.
