‘Sofia the First’ Will Return to Disney Junior For New Sequel Series
Sofia the First is gearing up to make a royal return!
The Walt Disney Company’s youngest princess is set to return to Disney Jr. for a new sequel series titled Sofia the First: Royal Magic.
The original Sofia the First series ran from 2012 through 2018. It followed a young peasant girl named Sofia, who became a princess overnight when her mother married the King of Enchancia.

Since its original run, Sofia the First has continued to be one of Disney Junior’s most popular shows. It also spawned the hit spin-off Elena of Avalor.
The Princess Is Off to School in ‘Sofia the First: Royal Magic’
Sofia the First: Royal Magic will see the young princess head to The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where young royals further their magical and royal education. Ariel Winter will reprise her role as the titular princess.

Craig Gerber, who created both the original series and Elena of Avalor, is returning for Royal Magic.
“I wanted to try something new,” Gerber told THR. The new series will find the young princess “in a new school with new friends, learning new skills and encountering stories that teach her about teamwork and friendship and leadership.”

The Franchise Continues to Be Popular
Despite ending its original run six years ago, Sofia the First has continued to be one of Disney’s most popular preschool characters.
“Since its debut in 2012, Sofia the First captured the hearts and imaginations of preschoolers everywhere for its beloved characters, memorable music, adventurous spirit and meaningful storylines,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement. “The enduring charm and appeal of Sofia is undeniable, and we’re excited to continue sharing her journey in Sofia the First: Royal Magic.”

Unlike the original series, each episode of Sofia the First: Royal Magic will include two 11-minute stories as opposed to one 22-minute tale.
The series is expected to debut in 2026.
