With Disney announcing new projects at a breakneck speed during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, it was hard to keep up with all the news.
On a night that was full of exciting revelations, a glimpse at the future, and many musical performances, perhaps the most shocking announcement was that four new ships are coming to the Disney Cruise Line!
With both the Disney Treasure and the Disney Destiny under construction in Germany, the Disney Cruise Line plans to continue expanding its fleet.
On Saturday, the company announced plans to add an additional four ships to the Disney Cruise Line, bringing its total to 13 ships!
At this time, the ship names, themes, and itinieraries are still a work in progress. The four new vessels are expected to debut between 2027 and 2031.
‘Disney Hercules’ Will Debut Aboard the Disney Dream
If you know who put the “glad” in “gladiator,” then I have great news!
A new Broadway-style show based on Disney’s Hercules will debut aboard the Disney Destiny when the ship sets sail in 2025.
According to Disney, the retelling of the classic animated film will feature the music, characters, and story that fans have come to love!
In Disney Hercules, the Muses will once again serve as storytellers. In addition to the songs from the film, the production will also debut a ballad, “Shooting Star.”
“Disney The Tale of Moana’
Turning their attention to the Disney Treasure, Disney has shared a first look at Disney The Tale of Moana, which will debut aboard the vessel in December.
The story will bring Moana’s unforgettable story to the stage for the first time.
In newly released concept art, Disney previewed the epic moment when Moana and Maui battle Te Kā. In the show, the goddess will be depicted by an incredible fifteen-foot-tall puppet.
Later in the show, when Moana restores the heart of Te Fiti, Te Kā will return to her true form.
The puppets used in Disney The Tale of Moana are being developed by Jeff Conover and Michael Curry.
