BREAKING: Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America Will Be Transformed Into New ‘Cars’ Expansion
Just days after Disney announced that a new Cars land was coming to Magic Kindom’s Frontierland, we now have confirmation on where the new area will be located.
To make way for the new attractions, the Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be replaced.
“We are thrilled to create this original Cars adventure and put our guests in the driver’s seat as we—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland,” shared Michael Hundgen, Walt Disney World Portfolio Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.

“Part of pioneering this new story includes tapping into the themes of exploration and adventure that inspire so many of us to keep propelling forward. Anytime we touch Magic Kingdom, we recognize the massive responsibility that exists to get it right and tell stories that connect with our guests.”
Construction Will Ramp Up Next Year
The new area of Frontierland will feature two attractions. The first will take guests on a thrilling race through the mountains, walking trails, and geysers. The second attraction will be geared towards the whole family.

According to Disney, work on the new Cars area will begin next year, meaning that guests will still have time to visit and enjoy the current Frontierland.

Villains Land Will Be Beyond Big Thunder
In their latest announcement, Disney also confirmed that the previously announced Villians Land will be built beyond Big Thunder Mountain. The new area will be, inspired by the wicked characters fans know and loathe. The multi-acre expansion will include two major attractions, plus dining and shopping.”
