‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Has Officially Crossed $1 Billion at the Box Office
After just three weekends in theaters, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office.
Through Sunday, the film has now grossed $494.3 million in North America and $535.1 million internationally. That gives the third Deadpool film a total of $1.029 billion overall.
The latter number is important because Deadpool & Wolverine needs to reach $1.07 billion to pass 2019’s Joker and become the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.
Disney Once Again Dominates
After a rough 2023 at the box office for Marvel, the studio has rebounded in stunning fashion. Deadpool & Wolverine is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film since Spider-Man: No Way Home to cross the $1 billion barrier and only the second Marvel Studios film to do so since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
The latest hit from Marvel is yet another sign that Disney is still the king of the box office. The studio has now had two films reach the $1 billion mark this year (the second being Inside Out 2). With Moana 2 and Musfasa: The Lion King on the horizon, Disney has a real chance of getting to 3 or 4 billion-dollar films for the year.
In total, 55 films have grossed $1 billion at the box office, 31 of which belong to Disney (this figure includes 3 Fox titles that Disney subsequently purchased). The MCU, meanwhile, has now had 13 films cross that barrier.
Having only been in theaters for just over two weeks, Deadpool & Wolverine should continue to rack up dollars. While it remains to be seen how high the film will go, Marvel and Disney have to be thrilled with the results.
