WATCH: New ‘Moana 2’ Trailer Introduces Moana’s Younger Sister
During the Disney Entertainment presentation last night at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, fans were given a sneak peek at upcoming films from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel.
While many of the films previewed are not set to hit theaters until at least 2025, Disney also previewed Moana 2, which is set to be released this Thanksgiving.
Set three years after the events of Moana, the upcoming film will see Moana once again take to the high seas to reconnect the people of Oceania.
Along the way, the young heroine will reunite with Maui and make new allies.
At D23, Auli’i Crabalho (who performed a new song titled “We’re Back”) and Dwayne Johnson were on hand to introduce a new trailer for the film.
Introducing Simea
The new trailer begins with Moana reuniting with her younger sister, Simea.
The duo then go to the cave where Moana’s boat rests as the heroine reveals her next mission.
“Before Maui stole Te Fitit’s heart, our ancestors wanted to connect our island to all the people of the entire ocean. It’s my job as a Wayfinder to finish what they started,” Moana explains.
During a ceremony back in the village, Moana is then called by the ancestors to find an ancient island to “break the curse” and bring the people of Oceana together again.
Reuniting with Maui, the heroine sets out on an adventure that brings her face to face with a mysterious new villain named Matangi and the Kakamora.
