Disney Announces ‘Monster Jam’ Starring Dwayne Johnson

Between his work in Jungle Cruise and the Moana franchise, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has, in many ways, become the face of Disney over the last decade and a half.

Now, just a couple of months after signing an extensive production deal with the actor, Disney has announced that Johnson will star in Monster Jam, a live-action film set in the world of motorsports.

Johnson was on hand at last night’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event for the Disney Entertainment panel for the project’s reveal.

“We got an opportunity here that we could create something that is immersive and cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families all around the world, from the POV of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers,” he announced.

“Ladies and gentlemen, ‘Monster Jam’ is gonna be a heck of a ride.”

‘Monster Jam’ Is Coming to the Big Screen

Johnson and Disney are partnering with Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Monster Jam, to bring the new film to life.

“Together, The Rock and Monster Jam are truly As Big As It Gets! We’re thrilled to collaborate with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to take moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam on a high-octane, live-action adventure that will bring the larger-than-life Monster Jam trucks and personalities from the stadium to the screen,” Feld Entertainment CEO Juliette Feld Grossman said.

For his part, Johnson sounded thrilled.

“I’m so excited to break the news to you guys,” he said. “As you guys know, I’m a pickup truck man. That’s all I drive. I drove my pickup truck here. It’s out back. You guys know that, and I love motorsports, love monster trucks.”

While both The Rock and Disney were clearly excited about the upcoming project, no release date for the film was given.
