All the Big Announcements From Night One of D23
D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is officially underway, and in true Disney fashion, they kicked off the event with a bang!
Walt Disney Studios made some major announcements last night. The exciting updates highlight upcoming projects across its various franchises, including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and more.
The event was filled with exciting announcements, new trailers, and performances! Here are all of the major announcements from night one of D23!
Walt Disney Animation Studios
Disney Animation introduced a series of highly anticipated sequels and original films.
- Moana 2 — The new sequel releases on November 27, 2024, and reunites Moana and Maui for a new adventure.
Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana, performed a new song, “We’re Back,” and Dwayne Johnson, who voices Maui, revealed a new trailer and poster.
- Zootopia 2 — Coming November 2025, this sequel features detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they track down a mysterious reptile. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return as the voices of Judy and Nick. But this time, there are new characters voiced by Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster.
- Frozen 3 — Fans can’t get enough of Elsa and Ana. This highly anticipated third installment, slated to open in 2027, has released new concept art.
- Avatar: Fire and Ash — To be released on December 19, 2025. It promises another immersive journey to Pandora and the return of your favorite characters.
Pixar Animation Studios
Pixar also made several exciting announcements.
- Win or Lose — This is Pixar’s first original series and will debut on Disney+ on December 6, 2024.
It follows various characters and what it’s like to be in their shows as we follow their journey leading up to a championship softball game.
- Dream Productions — Another new series from the world of “Inside Out.” Debuting on Disney+ in 2025, the new show explores the making of dreams inside Riley’s mind.
- Elio — This film, which will be released on June 13, 2025, follows a young space enthusiast mistaken for Earth’s leader in an intergalactic adventure.
- Hoppers — This new film is coming to theaters in 2026 and introduces Mabel, an animal lover who uses technology to “hop” her consciousness into a life-like robotic beaver.
- Toy Story 5 — The newest movie in this beloved franchise is set to open on June 19, 2026, and features Buzz, Woody, and the gang facing off against a new tech threat to playtime.
- Incredibles 3 — More Incredibles?! The superhero family will return to the big screen, with the film currently in development.
Disney on Broadway
Disney on Broadway celebrated its 30th anniversary with amazing live performances and big announcements.
The Greatest Showman will get a stage adaptation, a Frozen musical set to premiere on Disney+ in 2025, and Hercules is coming to London’s West End in summer 2025.
Lucasfilm
Lucasfilm previewed several upcoming projects.
- Skeleton Crew — Coming to Disney+ on December 3, 2024, this new coming-of-age “Star Wars” series follows four kids who embark on an unexpected journey in a dangerous galaxy.
- Andor Season 2 – Fans will love this follow-up to the acclaimed first season! The story continues with Cassian Andor’s transformation into a rebel hero.
- The Mandalorian and Grogu — The upcoming film, directed by Jon Favreau and opening on May 22, 2026, will continue the adventures of these fan-faves.
Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige added to the fun and shared exciting updates on several projects.
- Agatha All Along — Premiering on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, this series features Agatha Harkness, now powerless and seeking to regain control.
- Captain America: Brave New World — Anthony Mackie will make his big-screen debut as the new Captain America on February 14, 2025. Follow Sam Wilson in the middle of a global crisis.
- Daredevil: Born Again — This series is coming to Disney+ in March 2025,and follows Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk as their rivalry escalates.
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps — This film, featuring a star-studded cast, is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025. The new film has a storyline with a retro-futuristic vibe.
- Ironheart — This Disney+ series is coming in 2025 and is set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Riri Williams is a young inventor navigating a conflict between technology and magic.
Disney Entertainment Television
The second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is currently in production and will be released on Disney+ in 2025.
The new season will be based on “The Sea of Monsters.”
Disney Branded Television, DIsney Concerts, Disney Music Group, AEG
Get ready for the arena tour of Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour coming summer of 2025. Stars from the franchises come together for an immersive and interactive live concert.
Disney Live Action
There are some exciting projects coming from Disney’s live-action division.
Mufasa: The Lion King – Opening on December 20, 2024, this prequel tells the story of Mufasa’s early life as an orphaned cub.
Disney’s Snow White– This live-action reimagining of the classic tale is coming March 21, 2025. Rachel Zegler is Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Check out the new trailer here.
Lilo & Stitch—A live-action adaptation of the beloved animated classic will premiere in the Summer of 2025 and will feature everyone’s favorite blue alien, Stitch, causing chaos once again.
TRON: Ares- Debuting on October 10, 2025, Jared Leto as Ares, a highly sophisticated program sent from the digital world into the real world, marking humanity’s first encounter with AI beings.
Freakier Friday—Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan announced a sequel to the popular “Freaky Friday.” This film sees them reprising their roles as Tess and Anna. Follow along as they face the challenges of merging two families.
New Monster Truck Movie—More details are TBD. Dwayne Johnson and Alan Bergman revealed a new movie about monster trucks is in the works.
