Shawn Levy Reveals That Taylor Swift Was Never Going to be in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
In the lead-up to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans were convinced that Taylor Swift would be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in the film.
Swift is longtime friends with Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, and was even spotted at a Chiefs game with the Deadpool & Wolverine stars. It seemed like a match made in heaven.
Despite early marketing material featuring Swift imagery, including Deadpool & Wolverine friendship bracelets, just weeks before the film was set to debut, Entertainment Weekly reported that the singer would not appear in the film. Still, fans held out hope.
Shawn Levy Discusses THOSE Taylor Swift Rumors
As it turns out, those reports were correct. When Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters, Swift was nowhere to be found.
In a post-release interview with EW, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy revealed that rumors of Swift’s involvement were so loud, that they began to worry him.
“It was so very loud,” Levy recalled. “I definitely had moments where I was worried I would disappoint people when they realized Taylor as Dazzler was not in the movie, but there’s no controlling the internet and rumors spread like wildfire.”
According to the director, there were never even any discussions about the Tourtured Poets Society singer appearing in the film.
“It was never a conversation. It was never even a seed of a discussion. Obviously, Ryan and Blake, and myself, to a far lesser extent, have our own relationships in real life with Taylor. But, yeah, those rumors were loud and slightly baffling, but nothing I said or did was going to make them quiet down until this movie came out.”
Swift Still Supported the Film
While Swift ended up not being in Deadpool & Wolverine, she still cheered her friends on from the sideline.
“Over the past few years, I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” Swift wrote in her Instagram story. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”
“But that’s just Hugh for you!” she quipped.
Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters now.
