Emma Corrin Discusses the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Cameos and Their MCU Future
While Deadpool & Wolverine featured a collection of familiar faces, the film also introduced Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova.
The ultra-powerful sister of Professor Charles Xavier and multiversal threat served as the film’s main antagonist and driving force.
As the ruler of the Void, Nova comes into conflict will different heroic variants, including Chris Evans’s Johnny Storm, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
In a recent interview with GQ UK, Corrin discussed her interactions with the formal Marvel stars. According to The Crown star, Deadpool & Wolverine was all about giving its characters a moment in the spotlight.
“Exactly. All everyone wants in this film, from Cassandra to Wolverine to Gambit, everyone wants an ending. Everyone wants to be understood and to feel like they matter. That was a really nice thing to feel like I was a part of,” they explained.
Who Corrin Got a Chance to Work With
While Corrin got a chance to do a scene with Chris Evans, they didn’t get a chance to work with the other returning stars.
“I was on the same set as Chris, but I met Jennifer and Channing [Tatum] and Wesley [Snipes], but I don’t think we had a scene [together]. We didn’t actually shoot together.”
Keeping a Secret
Marvel Studios is known for surrounding its films in a veil of secrecy. According to Corrin, the Deadpool & Wolverine team knew how exciting the film’s cameos would be for fans, and so they wanted to keep it a surprise.
“We shot all those scenes at Pinewood, so that means it was all very internal. I think that you know, the thing that Marvel films as much as people want the spoilers, I really think and I hope that people also understand that it’s, there is nothing more satisfying for an audience member to watch the film for the first time and not know who’s gonna come on screen. You don’t want that surprise to be ruined,” they explained.
“So I think that everyone on the production really knew that. And they Yeah, they could kind of sense how big this would be. You should have heard the screams when these guys turned off on screen, it was the most satisfying thing it was so joyful. And it just kept getting better.”
The Story Was Most Important
While Marvel has consistently grabbed headlines for its surprise appearances and cameos, Corrin explains that the studio ensures that everything is done for a reason.
“That’s something [Marvel] do so well, the cameos. You know, they give the people what they want. They give them cameos. But they also don’t use them gratuitously. They’re all there for a reason. And I think you really sense that. Or, I hope people sense that, because I think they’re used really cleverly.”
Will We See Cassandra Nova Again?
When asked if Cassandra Nova could still loom large over the future of the MCU despite seemingly meeting her end at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine, Corrin was adamant that they would return if asked.
“What a statement, I’ll take it. I mean, I’ve never been as nervous as I was in that cinema. When we sat down and watched it with everyone, a few days ago, I was absolutely shaking, not only because it was freezing, because the aircon in the States is unhinged, but it was so nerve-wracking. I felt so much pressure to do this character justice because it’s the first time she’s been seen on screen,” Corrin explained.
“Yeah you just want to make the fans happy because these characters mean so much to them. And yeah, I hope I did it justice. And obviously, I’d come back at any moment.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters now.
