‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Is a Love Letter (and Eulogy) to the 20th Century Fox Marvel Universe
Leading up to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, it looked like the film would end the 20th Century Fox universe and somehow transport its titular heroes onto the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sacred Timeline.
With a destroyed 20th Century logo serving as the backdrop for much of the film’s pre-release footage, fans expected the latest Deadpool film to be a farewell to the 25 years of storytelling that came before it.
Then, something magical happened.
A Love Letter to the Fox Marvel Movies
Instead of mocking, distancing itself from, and ultimately destroying the 20th Century Fox Marvel universe, Deadpool & Wolverine embraced it.
The final result was something of a love letter to the Fox Marvel movies, with many of the universe’s discarded heroes coming back for one more adventure.
Perhaps even more surprisingly, when the dust settled on the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, the Merc with the Mouth ended up back home where he started.
A Fitting Ending
As the film’s final credits rolled, Reynolds, Levy, and Jackman decided to include a reel of various Fox Marvel actors behind the scenes as “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” played. It was a fitting eulogy that came from a place of love.
Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds took to X to pay tribute to the 20th Century Fox Marvel universe, noting that he was “forever grateful.”
This isn’t just Deadpool saying ‘Oh, Hello’ to the MCU. It’s Deadpool – and Hugh, Shawn and me – saying farewell to a place and an era that literally made us. We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we… pic.twitter.com/bvrp3cTote

As the two biggest stars to come out of the Fox Marvel universe, perhaps it was only fitting that Jackman and Reynolds were there to say goodbye.
Still, who would have thought that the vulgar Deadpool would do so in such a sweet way.
