FIRST LOOK: ‘Skeleton Crew’ Is Coming to Disney+ on December 3
The Star Wars universe is set to expand again this December when Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+.
Taking inspiration from Amblin movies like Goonies and Gremlins, the new series will follow the adventures of a group of children who find themselves lost in space.
“When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy,” the show’s synopsis reads. “Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”

Created by John Watts and Christopher Ford, the new series will star Jude Law, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, and Jaleel White.
Jude Law Calls ‘Skeleton Crew’ “Joyful”
In a recent interview with People, Jude Law previewed the upcoming series, telling the magazine that the “first word that comes to my mind” is “joyful.”
“It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars,” he adds with a smile. “And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it.”

According to Law, Skeleton Crew will find his character, Jod Na Nawood, and the show’s cast thrust together.
The series, he says, is “very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming…perhaps [one’s] opinion of oneself or one’s own weaknesses in order to succeed.”
The Cast Formed a Tight Bond
Working so closely with his young co-stars, Law says the cast formed a tight bond.

“I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved,” he says of his time with the child actors. “Those four in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of their crew.”
Watts had nothing but praise for Law’s work on Skeleton Crew, noting that the veteran actor turned into a mentor for the young cast.
“Because he’s with the kids all the time, he’s also kind of felt like the co-director, co-producer with us and he’s co-acting coach, you know, giving the kids tips, and they would look to him. He really became sort of a mentor figure to the kids as well,” Watts explained.

“And he didn’t have to do that. He just did that because it was nice and it would make things work great,” Ford added.
Fans Can Enjoy ‘Skeleton Crew’ Without Being Caught Up on ‘Star Wars’
While by and large, Skeleton Crew will be set in its own corner of the Star Wars universe, Law teased that the series will pay homage to the original trilogy films.
“If you look carefully, [we] got some Star Wars tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film,” he reveals. “They do [easter eggs] so well. That’s one of the joys I think of this universe for those who know there are these little details always hidden away or Easter eggs that people can find and link up.”
Ford explained that he and Watts had “the fun and the challenge of finding some deep cut [references].”

“I can’t wait,” Watts said. “I mean, even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize.”
Still, according to the series creator, fans will be able to enjoy Skeleton Crew without being caught up on the latest Star Wars lore.
“You don’t have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show,” Watts shares. “You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there’s a lot for you.”
