Is Iron Man the MCU’s Anchor Being? Kevin Feige Weighs In
Warning: This article includes Deadpool & Wolverine spoilers.
While fans expected that Deadpool & Wolverine would see Ryan Reynold’s Merc with the Mouth entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Sacred Timeline and potentially set up the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, that ended up not being the case.
Though Deadpool did briefly travel to the Earth-616 to meet with Happy Hogan, Deadpool & Wolverine largely stuck to its own corner of the universe.

In fact, with much of the film’s action taking place in Deadpool’s home universe (which he shares with the other Fox Marvel films) or the Void, Deadpool & Wolverine’s impact on the broader MCU was seemingly kept to a minimum.
What Is an Anchor Being?
With that being said, the latest Deadpool film introduced one concept that will likely have a long-term effect on the future of the Marvel Universe.
When Deadpool is first brought to the TVA for a meeting with Paradox, the administrator explains the concept of “anchor beings.”

According to Paradox, an anchor being is a person with “such vital importance that when they die, their whole world slowly withers out of existence.” Essentially, when an anchor being dies, so does their timeline.
While Deadpool initially assumes that he is the anchor being in his universe (Earth-10005), Pardadox quickly reveals that it is Wolverine around whom the timeline revolves. With the X-Man’s death in 2017’s Logan, Deadpool’s timeline is doomed.

It traditionally takes thousands of years for a timeline to die following the loss of its anchor being — however, Paradox wants to speed the process up for Deadpool’s timeline. This sets off the events of the film.
Who Is the Sacred Timeline’s Anchor Being?
For Marvel fans, one of the biggest questions coming out of Deadpool & Wolverine is who is the anchor being of the MCU’s sacred timeline?
Perhaps the most obvious candidate to fill the role of anchor being would be Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. After all, since 2008’s Iron Man, Stark has been the heart of the MCU.

If it is indeed Iron Man who is the Sacred Timeline’s anchor being, that raises another question. What does the character’s death in Avengers: Endgame mean for the future of the MCU?
Kevin Feige Weighs In
In a recent interview with ComicBook (conducted before Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom was announced), Marvel president Kevin Feige was asked if Tony Stark was the Sacred Timeline’s anchor being.
“The fact that you even asked that makes me happy, and that the term has ignited your imagination to even ask that question,” Feige coyly responded.

As Marvel wraps up its Multiverse Saga, it seems likely that we will see a consolidation of the timelines. Perhaps then, we will soon learn more about the fabric of the Sacred Timeline, including its anchor being.
