Marvel Warns Fans About ‘Thunderbolts*’ — “Careful Who You Assemble”
When Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* hits theaters next year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will see the formation of a new kind of superhero team.
As opposed to the largely clean-cut Avengers, the Thunderbolts will be comprised of former villains and anti-heroes.
Under the watchful eye of Lantina Allegra de Fontaine (Julie Louis-Dreyfus), the new team will be comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent ( Wyatt Russell).
The Thunderbolts publically debuted as a team at Comic-Con on Saturday with when simple message for fans:
“Careful who you assemble.”
“There Are Good Huys, and You’re Bad Guys”
The limited footage that fans saw at Marvel’s H Hall Thunderbolts* panel made it clear that the new Marvel superhero team is not the Avengers.
“There are good guys, and you’re bad guys,” Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine said in the clip. “But there are worse guys.”
“We’re a completely new species of hero, I would say,” Harbour said in a post-panel interview. “We don’t exist yet in the MCU. I think we’re a new evolution of something. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but it’s unique.”
Sebastian Stan added that the Thunderbolts have “impulsivity.”
Harbour Teases That Something Big Is Coming
In a later interview with ComicBook.com, Harbour told the outlet that Thunderbolts* will include a “bomb drop thing we add to the universe.”
“Robert Downey [Jr.] shows up in the middle of the movie. Oh, wait,” Harbour quipped.
While Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is unlikely to appear in Thunderbolts*, Harbour said the film will affect the larger MCU.
“No, I’m kidding. How can I elaborate on it? I can’t elaborate,” Harbour said. “Literally, our characters are going to interact with something that we really don’t understand and fundamentally changes the course of the way things expand. And that’s all I’m saying. I’m getting calls tomorrow.”
Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
