Harrison Ford Pays Tribute to William Hurt As He Prepares to Assume the Role of Thunderbolt Ross in the MCU
At the age of 82, Harrison Ford is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, the Hollywood legend is about to start off on another adventure.
After long stints in both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, Ford is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut next year, portraying Thunderbolt Ross/Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order.
Ford is assuming the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt, who first played the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Hurt would then reprise his role as Ross in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow.
Portraying Ross as both the Hulk’s primary antagonist and a politically savvy Secretary of State who divides the Avengers, Hurt’s presence has loomed large in the MCU. Sadly, the actor passed away at the age of 71 in 2022.
Ford Pays Tribute to Hurt
As Ford prepares to play the now-president Thunderbolt Ross and his Red Hulk alter-ego, the actor paid tribute to Hurt’s legacy.

“He laid a very firm foundation for the character, I respect him enormously in the work that he did in his lifetime,” Ford told PEOPLE. “God bless his soul. I’m delighted to be able to stand on his shoulders and continue playing the character.”
The Actor Seems Happy to be Joining the MCU
For Captain America: New World Order, Ford will join a star-studded cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, and Liv Tyler. At San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, the actor sounded genuinely happy to make his Marvel debut.

“Feels good, feels officially good. I’d been watching really good actors having a really good time working in the Marvel universe and I’m delighted to now be one of them,” Ford told PEOPLE. “They’re good actors, I’m not saying I’m a great actor, I’m just saying.”

Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
