The Russo Brothers Are Officially Returning to Marvel to Direct ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
At San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, Marvel Studios announced that Avengers 5 will be officially titled Avengers: Doomsday.
While the big news coming out of H Hall is that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Victor Von Doom, the actor is not the only person making their MCU comeback.
After months of speculation, Kevin Feige confirmed that the Russo brothers are officially returning to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Return of the Russos
The high-profile directors previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
After revealing the titles of the upcoming Avengers movies, Kevin Feige teased the Russos’ return.

“Who the heck is going to direct these two movies?” he asked, before screening footage of past Russo MCU films.
The filmmaking duo then walked on stage to thunderous applause.
“We missed you guys,” Joe Russo began. “You are the best damn fans in the world.”
“That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent with all our emotions on the floor,” Anthony said. “In the time since, through a very special story, Joe and I have come to potentially see a road forward with you all.”
The Russos Have Long Lauded ‘Secret Wears’
While it seemed that their time in the MCU was over after Endgame, the Russo brothers have long expressed thier affinity for Marvel’s Secret Wars comics, telling Deadline in 2022 that they “adored” the multiversal story.

“Our love for Marvel is based on the books that we read as kids, the books that we fell in love with,” Joe said.
“The one series that we adored growing up was ‘Secret Wars.’ It’s incredibly ambitious.”
Now that the Russos are official back, the directors will have their work cut out for them. With Marvel reportedly set on bringing 60 charcters back for Avengers: Doomsday, the brothers have a Herculean task ahead of them.

Still, with their experience directing Infinity War and Endgame and their love of the source material, it sounds like the Russos are up for the challenge.
