Giancarlo Esposito’s Marvel Mystery Role Has Been Unveiled and Harrison Ford Talks Playing Red Hulk in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’
While much is being made of Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the upcoming arrival of the Fantastic Four, the next Marvel film to hit theaters will be Captain America: Brave New World.
The fourth installment in the Captain America franchise will see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson assuming the mantle of Captain America for the first time on the big screen. Joining Mackie will be stars Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, Liv Tyler, Giancarlo Esposito, and Harrison Ford, who will assume the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt.
The cast of Brave New World was on hand yesterday for Marvel Studios presentation at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, previewing the next great Marvel thriller.
Giancarlo Esposito’s Mystery Role Revealed
During the panel, Espositio finally revealed that he would be portraying Sidewinder, the King of the Serpent Society. Previously, the actor had played coy about his upcoming role.
“I am so happy to be in the MCU. I’m happy that you don’t know what I’m doing there and I’m happy that I probably don’t know what I’m doing there, but I’m happy to be there and you’re going to see it soon,” he teased last month.
Harrison Ford Talks Playing Red Hulk
The biggest pop of the night, however, was reserved for Harrison Ford. Fans in attendance were treated to footage from the upcoming film that showed Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross addressing the events of Eternals at a meeting with world leaders.
In the clip, it is revealed that the dead Celestial is made of Adamantium. Ross then recruits Sam Wilson to build a new Avengers team, though things quickly go wrong.
Also revealed in the preview was Thunderbolt Ross’ transformation into Red Hulk. Ford then confirmed to the audience that he would be portraying the character in its Hulk form.
“I am delighted and I am proud to become a member of the Marvel Universe,” Ford said during the panel. “I have been watching fantastic actors having a good time… and I wanted a piece of the action. Fantastic! Marvelous, even.”
Ford also did his best Hulk impersonation, roaring at the audience.
“Just when I think my nerdy life can’t get more complete, I hear Harrison Ford say Adamantium,” Feige quipped at the panel’s conclusion.
‘Captain America Brave New World’
Ahead of Brave New World’s release, Kevin Feige and Anthony Mackie have claimed that the film will be a political thriller similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The film will hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
