‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Dominates Theaters on Friday- Could Now Deliver a $200 Million Debut
After a disappointing 2023, Marvel Studios decided to slow things down this year and only release one film to theaters.
To get the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) back on track, Kevin Feige and his team turned to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The third installment in the Deadpool franchise not only sees Jackman reprise his role as Logan, but also bridges the gap between the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies and the MCU.

Just one day after the film hit theaters, it looks like Marvel’s faith in Deadpool & Wolverine has paid off.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Is Off to a Blistering Start
Disney reports that Deadpool & Wolverine made $96 million through Friday night, giving it the highest debut ever for an R-rated film. Additionally, the third Deadpool film delivered the sixth-highest opening ever.

Based on Friday’s numbers, Deadpool & Wolverine is now expected to gross between $195 and $205 million, which would easily be the biggest opening for the film’s stars.

Ryan Reynold’s previous best debut was $132.4 million for the original Deadpool, while Jackman’s X-Men: The Last Stand was his high-water mark at $102.7 million.
The Film Could Deliver a $200 Million Opening Weekend
Should Deadpool & Wolverine reach $200 million, the film would have the ninth-highest domestic of all time. Currently, the top eight openings are held by Avenges: Endgame ($357.1 million), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260.1 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.9 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million), Jurassic World ($208.8 million), The Avengers ($207.4 million), and Black Panther ($202 million).

Early tracking for Deadpool & Wolverine speculated that the film could hit the $200 million mark. Those expectations were subsequently lowered, however, with analysts predicting a $160 million opening.
After a blistering debut on Friday, it now looks like Deadpool & Wolverine will easily surpass those expectations.

With the film set to become both the biggest R-rated film ever and the highest-grossing film of 2024 thus far, Deadpool may just be the Marvel savior after all.
