Ryan Reynolds Wanted to Release ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ As a Fake Movie
It is no secret that before Hugh Jackman decided to team up with Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and director Shawn Levy came up with multiple ideas for a third Deadpool film.
However, during a recent appearance with Jackman on the latest episode of Hot Ones, Reynolds revealed that he also had a devious idea for how to release Deadpool & Wolverine to theaters.
“The original idea with this movie was to shoot a fake movie called ‘Alpha Cop,’ that was intentionally bad. I even had one of the posters made. It was about two guys that were sharing one brain and together they make the perfect cop,” Reynolds explained.
The idea was to cast Reynolds and Jackman in the fake film and send it to theaters. When audiences arrived, they would then be in for the surprise of a lifetime.
Why It Didn’t Happen
“It was meant to be kind of like horrible,” Reynolds said of the fake movie. “Like 10 people in America would go to see this movie on opening weekend. And five minutes into the movie the Marvel logo would flip up and it would actually be ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The problem is that if you managed to get down to the last minute and it got blown, it would just be heartbreaking.”
While surprising audiences with Deadpool & Wolverine would have been amazing, it is unlikely that Marvel would have been able to keep the film a secret.
Still, the idea of a small audience showing up for Alpha Cop, only to be surprised with the biggest film of 2024, would have been truly memorable.
