Shawn Levy Addresses the ‘Avengers 5’ Rumors
One of the biggest questions surrounding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is who will direct Avengers 5.
The next time Marvel’s iconic superhero team assembles, it will mark the culmination of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
With Marvel reportedly looking to bring 60 established characters back for Avengers 5, the stakes are obviously high.
Who Will Direct ‘Avengers 5’?
Once upon a time, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton was slated to direct the next Avengers film, which was set to be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Following the poor reception to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantuamania and Jonathan Majors’s domestic assault conviction, Marvel changed their plans. The name of the next Avengers film was subsequently reverted to Avengers 5, and Cretton exited the project.
Since that time, numerous directors have been rumored to be in consideration to helm the next Avengers film. Sam Raimi has previously expressed interest in the project, and recently, it sounded like Marvel was zeroing in on the Russo brothers.
What About Shawn Levy
Another name that has been publically linked to Avengers 5, however, is Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.
Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Levy was the man Marvel wanted to helm Avengers 5, but the director was non-committal.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Deadpool & Wolverine director was asked directly about Avengers 5. His answer was interesting.
“Well, I definitely read those reports too because I also have the internet, but I’ve read a lot of reports. What I’ll say is I’ve had my head down for a long time making this movie,” Levy said.
“It’s been an incredibly gratifying experience and it seems to be one that was equally gratifying for Marvel. So, without committing to any details, I won’t be surprised if Marvel and I aren’t done with each other.”
While it remains to be seen if Levy is tasked with reassembling the Avengers, it sounds like the director enjoyed working with Marvel. Hopefully, the relationship between the director and the studio will continue.
