Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Discuss What’s Next For Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine will not only see the return of Ryan Reynold’s Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s iconic X-Man, but the film will also bring the characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

While we are still days away from the third Deadpool film hitting theaters, fans are already starting to imagine what kind of adventures Deadpool and Wolverine will get into in the broader MCU.

During a recent interview with Comicbook, Reynolds, Jackman, and director Shawn Levy were asked what’s next for their characters.

“Who knows,” Jackman said. “They’re all sort of folded in together, so who knows where that’s going, or what Kevin Feige and the whole team have planned. I’m avoiding that answer.”

Laying the Groundwork

According to Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will not only bring its titular heroes together but also lay the groundwork for how the characters fit into the MCU.

“I guess anything’s possible now,” said the director. “What we loved is we got to take these characters, tell a story with them together, and bring them into the MCU together. I just feel like the luckiest filmmaker in the world.”

A Complete Story

While it remains likely that both characters will continue to appear in other Marvel projects, Reynolds was quick to point out that Deadpool & Wolverine is a self-contained story.

“And also, that’s enough. That’s enough! We feel good about that,” Reynolds added. “Also, the fact that they allowed us to make a movie that wasn’t in any way a commercial for another movie, that it got to just be its own adventure with a beginning, a middle, and an end. You get to watch a film and walk out utterly satisfied and, if we’ve done our job right, they’re going to be happier than they’ve been inside any movie theater for a very long time.”
