Kevin Feige Confirms That ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Start the MCU’s “Mutant Era”
Coming off the highs of the Infinity Saga and the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) attempted to take its stories to another level with the advent of the Multiverse Saga.
While the MCU’s second chapter had its share of highs, including WandaVision, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the Multiverse Saga failed to achieve the same kind of cohesion as the Infinity Saga.

After a disastrous 2023 that saw the arrest of Jonathan Majors (who was set to portray the “big bad” of the Multiverse Saga, Kang) and Marvel both revamping how it makes television series and its release pace, it looks like the studio is ready to turn the page.
The Mutant Era Has Arrived
Discussing the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine and the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU, Marvel head Kevin Feige says that the “mutant era” has arrived.

“I think every [MCU] movie is important, and the most important thing is a great movie. […] So there’s nothing better for a cinematic universe than a great movie coming out. The before and after? I think a lot of people talk about the R-rating – ‘Is every [Marvel] movie going to be R-rated after this?’ Of course not. But I hope every movie after this embraces its tonality the way Deadpool does and the way this team was able to do on Deadpool & Wolverine,” Feige began.

“Also, the ‘after’ is clearly…Now that we have the characters from the X-Men world and the mutants, that we haven’t had access [to] before, I think this is the beginning of that, and everything post-Deadpool & Wolverine will be the mutant era coming into the MCU.”
The Multiverse Saga Will Continue
With both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four set to arrive in the MCU over the next year, Marvel is getting a much-needed infusion of new characters.

While the Multiverse story will continue to play out through the next few releases and eventually culminate with Avengers: Secret Wars, it sounds like Marvel has a good idea for where the MCU is heading next.
