‘Inside Out 2’ Surpasses $500 Million at the Domestic Box Office
With Inside Out 2 now in its fourth weekend, coverage of the film’s box office success has begun to dissipate.
While it may no longer be the hot new thing in movie theaters (that distinction now falls to Despicable Me 4), the Pixar film continues to chug along, breaking new records as it goes.
Through the Fourth of July, Inside Out 2 has now grossed over $500 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-highest-grossing Pixar film ever.
The film is now roughly $108 million behind Incredibles 2. According to Deadline, by the end of the weekend, Inside Out 2 is expected to have grossed $535 million, putting it 6% ahead of where Incredibles 2 was at the 24-day mark.
A Global Success
In animation, the film only trails The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($574) and the aforementioned Incredibles 2.
Overall, Inside Out 2 is just the 21st film to cross the $500 million mark. Disney has sent 13 of those films to theaters.
By the end of the weekend, Inside Out 2 will be at least the sixth-highest-grossing animated film ever. Inside Out 2 currently sits at $1.123 billion, just ahead of Toy Story 3 ($1.06 billion) and Toy Story 4 ($1.07 billion).
It looks like the film will also be able to pass Minions (1.15 billion), Incredibles 2 (1.24 billion), and Frozen (1.27 billion). The two highest-grossing animated films of all time, Frozen II (1.45 billion) and The Super Mario Bros Movie (1.36 billion) will be tougher to surpass.
No matter how you slice it, Inside Out 2 is a blockbuster. After a couple of years for Pixar, the studio once again is reigning supreme in the world of animation.
