Marvel’s Head of Animation Says ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 “Hits the Heights” of the First Season
When Marvel Studios set out to revive the 1990s classic X-Men: The Animated Series for X-Men ’97, few could have imagined what a success the show would be.
Led by showrunner Beau DeMayo, the X-Men ’97 team created a show that not only appealed to fans of the original series but also brought in legions of new fans through the strength of its storytelling.

With the dust now settled on Season 1 of X-Men ’97, fans have already begun to look forward to Season 2. With Bayou DeMayo parting ways with Marvel just as X-Men ’97 debut, questions have arisen about the quality of the show moving forward.

In a recent appearance on The Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel’s head of animation and streaming, Brad Winderbaum, teased that the upcoming season will “match the heights” of Season 1.

“We got big plans for the second season. I’ve already seen all the animatics, we’re well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride — that ride continues in very X-Men fashion in the second season,” he said.
What We Know About the Upcoming Season
While Marvel has not announced when Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will debut on Disney+, production is currently underway. Season 1 ended with the X-Men being scattered through time and Apocalypse looming as the next big threat.
