‘The Fantastic Four’ Star Joseph Quinn Reveals If He Spoke to Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan
As Joseph Quinn prepares to head to England to film The Fantastic Four, the actor is taking stock of his place in the larger Marvel universe.
In the upcoming film, Quinn will play Johnny Storm/the Human Torch, a member of perhaps Marvel’s most famous superhero team.
Joining him in the First Family of Marvel will be Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (the Thing).
How Will ‘The Fantastic Four’ Fit Into the MCU?
Marvel fans have waited years for the Fantastic Four to finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The pressure, then, is on Quinn and his cohorts to get it right, an expectation that the actor is keenly aware of.
“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me. And again, going back to who’s involved, Matt, of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity,” he explained.
“Superhero movies are movies about people. And if we’re invested in the people and the characters and the peril and the spectacle, then that’s why people go to the theaters to watch films. We’re not just in a penny; we’re in for a pound with this one. We’re going to go for it.”
Has Quinn Talked to Previous Johnny Storms?
While Quinn will be the first actor to portray Johnny Storm in the MCU, he will also be following in the footsteps of Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan, who played different iterations of the Human Torch in previous Fantastic Four adaptations.
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Quinn admitted that he has not reached out to Evans or Jordan.
“I haven’t gotten in touch with them—maybe I should. It’s important to claim these opportunities as your own. I think they both did incredible jobs, and I’m definitely aware of how much this role means to a lot of people, and how successful they were in portraying him. I think it’s important to come at this with reverence for the people that have played it before, but an intention to make it one’s own. We’ll see,” he explained.
Quinn Wants to Make His Own Mark
While Quinn understands the importance of the character he is playing, he also wants to make Johnny Storm his own.
Fans will get a chance to see what Quinn comes up with when The Fantastic Four hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
