Disneyland Union Petitions Guests for Support
If you visited Disneyland recently, you might have noticed something unique: cast members handing out buttons featuring Mickey Mouse’s raised fist and Disneyland union representatives petitioning guests for support. This is more than just a cute accessory; it’s part of a larger movement by Disneyland’s largest union coalition seeking higher wages and better work conditions.

On Monday, July 1, Disneyland union employees took to the streets at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Disney Way, clad in their theme park uniforms. They distributed buttons adorned with the iconic image of Mickey Mouse’s white-gloved hand raised in a fist. These cast members also asked arriving visitors to sign a petition in support of ongoing union contract negotiations.

The Master Services Council, representing 13,000 Disneyland employees from four unions, has been actively negotiating with Disney since April. The union is pushing for a new contract that increases wages for all employees, including ride operators, store clerks, custodians, and candy makers. The previous contract expired on June 16, and the talks for a new agreement is in full swing.

In early June, the union filed unfair labor practice charges on behalf of over 500 workers who were disciplined for wearing the union buttons with Mickey’s raised fist. According to Disneyland officials, cast members are required to wear only approved buttons and pins as part of their costumes to maintain the immersive experience for guests. Those who violate these guidelines may face verbal warnings and disciplinary actions for repeated offenses.

The union’s efforts are a reminder of the ongoing negotiations between Disneyland and the Master Services Council. If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland, you may see the Disneyland Union petitioning guests outside the main gates and seeking support for their cause.
