Top Five Reasons You Should Visit Typhoon Lagoon This Summer!
For better or for worse, summer heat is here. Temperatures, humidity, and storms are on the rise across the country. For many, this weather elicits memories of popsicles, lazy days, and (of course) swimming!
Swimming may be low on your Walt Disney World priority list, but it shouldn’t be. Every onsite resort has a pool, and many guests swear by an afternoon dip.
And while I agree, I know all Disney pools aren’t created equally. Some are mini waterparks within themselves, and others are just… pools. (Plus, you can only visit the one at your resort.)
To ensure a great swim, take your planning one step further. Purchase admission to a WDW waterpark! Remember, starting in 2025, onsite resorts have complimentary waterpark admission on check-in day.
Until then, purchasing separate tickets is required but oh so worth it. Disney is currently operating two parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach is closed for refurbishments, but its sister park is no slouch.
Today, let’s discuss all the reasons why Typhoon Lagoon is an absolute must-visit during the summer months.
Island Theming
Disney continues to be the master of theming, even outside the four main parks. This waterpark mimics an idyllic tropical island that was ravaged by a typhoon. And the impressive backstory just grows from there.
The island remained intact, but remnants of sails, snorkeling gear, and fishing equipment were scattered throughout the paradise. The locals of said island bounced back, cleaning up the wreckage to create the Leaning Palms Resort (a.k.a. Typhoon Lagoon).
Look around. Imagineers got very creative repurposing the storm ‘debris’ into signs and resort décor throughout the park.
Despite that, evidence of the destruction is still in full view. (Just look at the shrimping boat, Miss Tilly, still perched way up on Mount Mayday.)
The detailed theming throughout the waterpark makes for an atmosphere that is whimsical, hopeful, and exciting in a scary way. After all, who knows when the next tropical storm will blow through? The spirit of adventure is palpable.
Either way, Typhoon Lagoon’s immersive setting is way more creative than ‘Florida Waterpark’. It’s another Imagineering triumph.
Thrilling Attractions
Who says that waterparks are just for lounging on a chair? Typhoon Lagoon has an impressive roster of attractions to cool you off and offer excitement.
Their attractions include offerings such as:
Slides:
Bay Slides
Crush n Gusher
Gangplank Falls
Humunga Kowabunga
Mayday Falls
Miss Adventure Falls
Storm Slides
Kids Area:
Ketchakidee Creek
Lazy River:
Castaway Creek
Wave Pool:
Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool
Every attraction is worth trying, but the crown jewel is the wave pool. It boasts waves tall enough to surf on and is the largest wave pool in North America. I highly recommend squeezing it into your itinerary.
Park Break
Exciting attractions aside, Typhoon Lagoon can offer the greatest gift of all. A break from that theme park hustle.
Even on its most crowded day, this waterpark will never be the shoulder-to-shoulder mess that Fantasyland turns into every afternoon. Lines will just be longer.
So, how should you plan for busy weekend days? Be an early bird!
Embrace a rope-drop morning and show up before the park opens. This will give you time to claim a great poolside chair and ride slides before the rush.
Please note that you can also rent cabanas and umbrellas directly from Disney.
When the humidity is high and the heat is blasting, you won’t regret skipping a park.
Cooling Off
Did I mention the heat? Florida weather is not to be taken lightly – especially in the summer.
Granted, you can utilize summer tips like using neck fans, cooling towels, hats, and smart clothing choices. You can also ride water rides. (Keep in mind that you might dry off too quickly in the Florida sun.)
But at the end of the day, nothing beats just dumping a bucket of water on your head. And what better place to do that than in a waterpark?
Whether you jump the waves in the surf pool, rush down the slides, or float down the lazy river – you can spend the whole day immersed in H20. And unlike the parks, you’ll be appropriately dressed to get soaked!
Ditch the ponchos and just dedicate an entire day to cooling off at Typhoon Lagoon. Embrace the messy hair and smell of chlorine for pure relief.
Great Vacation Compromise
Every year, many families struggle when deciding where to vacation. Oftentimes, theme parks and the beach go toe-to-toe.
With short summers and limited availability for school-age children, it’s hard to commit to a trip. But traveling to Disney World and taking a day or two for waterpark fun, is the best of both worlds.
In one trip, you can pound the theme park pavement and lounge by the pool for hours. Just like sharing meals at a restaurant, there’s no need to commit to one choice!
Even spending just one day at Typhoon Lagoon could be enough to get the relaxing vacation fix you need. And it could replenish your energy for the theme parks.
With so many reasons to visit Typhoon Lagoon, it’s time to splash on in! Grab your tickets now and enjoy the greatest pool day Disney has to offer.
Happy swimming!
