Jeremy Renner Says the Bond Between the Original Avengers Is Not Just For Show
The bond between the Avengers has been clearly displayed in the aftermath of Jeremy Renner’s near-fatal snow plow accident last year.
The Hawkeye star has been open about the fact that he was in a rough place both physically and mentally when he awoke in a hospital bed with over 30 broken bones. In his time of need, however, his Avengers co-stars were there.
In fact, one of the first people that Renner remembers seeing was Anthony Mackie. Then, there were the constant FaceTime conversations with Robert Downey Jr.
Chris Evans, Scarlet Johannson, and Evangeline Lilly all flew to Renner’s side as he recovered.
According to Evans, there were “no tears at all. A lot of laughs and smiles and hugs. Leave it to Jeremy to take something this potentially tragic and turn it into something so inspiring.”
The ‘Avengers’ Group Chat Continues
Then, of course, there was the famous Avengers group chat. For over a decade now, the six original Avengers have stayed in each other’s lives through a text chain. According to Chris Hemsworth, things really picked up after Renner’s accident.
“We were all on our ‘Avengers’ text chain. We were all chatting. And it was wild,” Hemsworth told GQ UK earlier last year.
“None of us really knew how serious it was. I think anything like that, it’s an immediate realization of ‘Wow, any of us can go at any minute…’ We’re getting to the age now where we’re going to start losing people we love.”
The Bond Is Real
While the Avengers group chat has been highly publicized, according to Renner, it’s not just for show.
“Oh, [heck] yeah, it’s a real thing — it’s not just for Instagram,” Renner says in a new interview with Men’s Health.
“We have a family chat and have for a long time. When you work with people — look, we all went through a culturally significant experience together. And there’s divorces and marriages and babies; a lot of stuff happened in these 12 years.”
“I Just Call It Love”
According to the actor, the bond between the six original Avengers has transcended the big screen.
“In the films, we look like we’re at a costume party, and there’s ridiculous props and we’re doing these ridiculous things, but it’s also beautiful because we’re all connected,” Renner added.
“There’s a brotherhood or sisterhood or whatever the heck you want to call it. I just call it love. I love every one of them. I’d rather go to jail with Downey than go do something amazing by myself. I’d rather get in a car crash with Evans.”
Whether or not we ever see the original six Avengers assemble again, the bond between them has been forged. By the sound of things, no matter what happens, they will always be a team.
