Leslye Headland Has “Four or Five Major Mysteries” in Mind Should ‘The Acolyte’ Be Renewed
While The Acolyte is currently still in the midst of its first season, should the Star Wars series continue, showrunner Leslye Headland has “four or five major mysteries that she would like to explore.
Following the big revelation in Episode 5, Headland sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss The Acolyte and how she wanted the series’ story to play out.

(L-R): Olega Master (Nick Court), Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen), Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) in Lucasfilm’s THE ACOLYTE, season one, exclusively on Disney+. ©2024 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved.
Headland, who is a self-proclaimed Star Wars nerd, has previously discussed how she wanted to make the most of her chance to create a story in the galaxy far, far away. That mindset not only held when it came to some of the characters that were included in The Acolyte but also the overarching story itself.
“Something that I’ve noticed is first seasons will end on what should have been the break into act two,” she says.

“It feels like everyone’s really expecting [their shows] to get a second season, and I don’t feel that’s a good idea. I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what’s going to happen?”
What Fans Can Expect in the Rest of the Season
While Headland’s description certainly fits, say, Ahsoka, the showrunner made sure to tell a complete story within the first season of The Acolyte. While the series started out a bit slow for some fans’ tastes, it quickly gained momentum.

“One of the most iconic relationships in Star Wars is the father-son dynamic, where the father is redeemed at the end of Return of the Jedi,” says Headland. “Our story is the father-daughter dynamic with Sol and Osha, and that’s a very different dynamic than father-son. So you’re going to see us explore that and get into that relationship even more deeply than the first half of the season, which focused more on sister-sister.”

At this point, Disney has not announced if The Acolyte will return for a second season. If the show does not come back, however, at least Headland will have shot her shot and told the story that she wanted to tell.
