‘Inside Out 2’ Is Now the Highest-Grossing Film of 2024 and Could Secure a $100 Million Second Weekend

Inside Out 2 once again blew past expectations this weekend on its way to perhaps grossing over $100 million at the domestic box office.

That number would be a paltry 35% drop versus last weekend, which is astounding for a tentpole film.

Disney is currently projecting that the film will reach triple digits at the box office by today’s end. However, the final number remains to be seen.

A Historic Second Weekend

If it can cross the $100 million mark, Inside Out 2 would secure the best second weekend for an animated film ever and even top Barbie, which grossed $93 million in its second weekend last July.

In total, only six other films have ever managed to cross the $100 million mark in their second weekend. Inside Out 2 would join The Force Awakens ($149.2 million), Avengers: Endgame ($147.3 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($114.7 million), Black Panther (111.6 million), Jurassic World ($106.5 million) and The Avengers ($103 million) in the exclusive club.

Whether or not Inside Out 2 can get to $100 million this weekend, Disney and Pixar are likely jumping for joy.

‘Inside Out 2’ Is Now the Highest-Grossing Film of 2024

Globally, just ten days after the film first hit theaters, Inside Out 2 has now grossed $724.4 million worldwide. That number bests Dune: Part Two’s $711 million final haul to give Pixar the highest-grossing film of 2024.

As Inside Out 2 continues to put up extraordinary numbers at the box office, the film reaching the $1 billion mark now seems to be an inevitability.

Overall, Inside Out 2  has proven to be not only a return to form for Pixar but also a godsend for movie theaters, which had been struggling.
