‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Secures a China Release
After a disappointing 2023 at the box office, Marvel Studios is set to slow things down this year and only release one film- Deadpool & Wolverine.
Luckily for Kevin Feige and his team, the third installment in the Deadpool franchise is tracking towards becoming an absolute blockbuster.

According to a new report from Deadline, The Quorum, which tracks films’ box office prospects six weeks in advance, is reporting that Deadpool & Wolverine could open to a $200-$239 million opening weekend.
Such an opening would give Deadpool & Wolverine the biggest opening for an R-rated film ever and Marvel its strongest debut since Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Film Secures a China Release
Building on the good news, Variety has now confirmed that Deadpool & Wolverine has also secured a release in mainland Chinese movie theaters on July 26, which will be simultaneous with its release at the domestic box office.
Perhaps more surprisingly, Deadpool & Wolverine will also be released with “minimal cuts.” That is a drastic change from the release of 2019’s Deadpool 2, which was drastically reworked as a PG-13 film and released as Once Upon a Deadpool in China.

Now that Disney has secured a Chinese release for Deadpool & Wolverine, five of the last six MCU will have debuted in the country. 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder was the last film not released in China. Disney CEO Bob Iger has long been credited with salvaging Disney’s relationship with China, paving the way for films like Deadpool & Wolverine to secure release windows in the country.
Reynolds and Jackman Will Head to China
On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Marvel announced that HIgh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Shawn Levy will be in China to promote the film on July 2.

Based on the early tracking numbers, and with a Chinese release in tow, Deadpool & Wolverine looks like it will be the biggest film of 2024.
