Dave Filoni Says ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Will Inform His New Republic Movie
While the next Star Wars feature film to hit theaters will be The Mandalorian & Grogu, Lucasfilm has three more projects on the docket.
One film will be Daisy Ridley’s highly anticipated return as Rey Skywalker for a post-Rise of Skywalker film. Also in the works is James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film, which will explore the origins of the force and the original Jedi. Finally, there is Dave Filoni’s New Republic movie.
Filoni’s Star Wars installment will bring together the heroes of the New Republic, who have been fleshed out throughout various Disney+ series. These include Din Djarin, Grogu, Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and perhaps even characters from the upcoming Skeleton Crew.
Filoni Gives an Update on His Film
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Filoni gave an update on the project. According to the Lucasfilm CCO, his work on Ahsoka Season 2 has inspired his plans for the movie.
“Because I’ve been writing [Ahsoka Season 2], things have clicked and I have a much better idea about where things are going to go,” Filoni said. “I will say, I have an opening I really like quite a bit, I’m very excited about it for that picture. I’m excited about the potential of just doing it … Right now, my focus is clearly on [Ahsoka] as well as the rest of the galaxy and how it’s spinning,” he said (via Comicbook.com).
Heir to the Empire
While it remains to be seen how Filoni brings the heroes of the New Republic together, the groundwork for his film is clearly being laid out in Ahsoka.
With Grand Admiral Thrawn returning to the known galaxy as the Heir to the Empire, Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra are going to need all the help they can get to take down the imperial officer.
