‘The Acolyte’ Delivered 11.1 Million Views In Its First 5 Days of Streaming
Star Wars fans finally got to explore the era of the High Republic last Wednesday when The Acolyte premiered on Disney+.
The latest chapter in the Star Wars saga is set roughly 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace at a time when the Jedi Order was at the height of their power.
“An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…” the series’ synopsis reads.
Based on the early results, Disney+ may have another Star Wars hit on their hands.
The Biggest Disney+ Premiere of 2024
As we previously reported, The Acolyte managed to bring in 4.8 million views in its first 24 hours of streaming. That number made the series the biggest Disney+ premiere of 2024.
Now that a bit more time has passed, Disney is reporting that The Acolyte’s debut brought in 11.1 million views globally in its first five days of streaming, which once again was a 2024 record.
Disney defines a view as the total number of hours streamed divided by runtime.
‘The Acolyte’ vs. ‘Ahsoka’
While Disney is likely happy with The Acolyte’s premiere, the series did fail to live up to the bar set by Ahsoka. The latter series managed to bring in 14 million viewers in its first five days of release.
The comparison between The Acolyte and Ahsoka, however, is not exactly apples to apples. Unlike Ahsoka, which featured characters familiar to Star Wars fans, including the immensely popular Ahsoka Tano and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, The Acolyte was set in an all-new time period with a brand new cast of characters.
Will the Ratings Hold?
The bigger question for The Acolyte, then, should not be how it compares to its Star Wars peers but how well the series can hold its audience.
If The Acolyte can hold its viewership numbers at a respectable rate, Disney will likely be thrilled with the show’s success.
